Questions to Ask Your Caterer and Why

Questions To Ask Your Caterer

Questions To Ask Your Caterer will empower you with the understanding of what to look for when narrowing down your choices. Choosing the best Central Florida Caterer can be an overwhelming process and if you can find a caterer that can coordinate your wedding reception smoothly, create great food, give you the price point you want, as well as provide great customer service, YOU HAVE FOUND A GEM. Also consider this when choosing a caterer; always go ALL INCLUSIVE IF YOU CAN. Many Central Florida catering companies supply tableware, bartending, barista services, as well as provide day of coordination services for you. In other words a good professional caterer can do it all . We’ve compiled a list of questions and considerations to keep in mind as you journey towards picking the right caterer for your special day.

ONE: Is the Central Florida Caterer Licensed to provide their services?

The importance of this is that you know that they have been reviewed by the health department prior to licensing and get regular “drop ins’ from a Central Florida Health Inspector.

TWO: Does the Caterer have a liquor license and liquor liability?

Once again this means that they have met local health department standards and carry liability insurance. This liability should be able to be individualized for your event. Make sure you have a copy of this as well as their liquor license.

THREE: Can the Caterer provide references from previous clients?

Talking with previous clients and brides can help you find out things that the Caterer themselves may not tell you. Also make sure you ask for references from events that are similar to yours.

FOUR: Does the Caterer specialize in certain types of food, such as organic, fresh locally sourced, ethnic or gluten-free? Do they work with fresh and not frozen pre-packaged products?

Do you have a particular type of cuisine or cultural food you would like to serve, can the Caterer accommodate that? Will they know how to prepare the foods you want, have they done it before?

FIVE: Does the Catered food come full service?

In other words are they going to give you a stress-free experience which includes: Linens, Table Settings, Glassware, Bar Service, Decor and most importantly the clean-up and setup.

SIX: What’s the average price range and does the Caterer off package pricing?

Catering is more than likely going to be one of your biggest expenditures so make sure you don’t take your decision lightly.  A professional Central Florida Caterer will cater to your needs and modify their packages to fit with you. If they want to earn your business they will help you find the right package and price point that will give you the most value.

SEVEN: Is the Caterer able to prepare other options, i.e. Gluten Free, Kosher, Vegetarian, etc.

Not all Caterer’s are willing to work with dietary restrictions. You can expect an additional cost but make sure you know up front what that cost is.

EIGHT: Can the Caterer provide children’s meals?

Depending on the Central Florida Caterer some will charge you 1/2 price of the adult meal but many others will often design a kids menu for you, so just ask questions and find out the cost up front.

NINE: Does your Caterer offer a tasting before your final decision?

Most Caterers do offer tastings but they all vary and the fee can also vary depending on how much of the Menu you will be tasting.

TEN: Where will the Caterer prepare the food?

This is very important depending on the details of your event. You obviously want everything to be as fresh as possible  So just ask the question, “Where will my food be prepared“.

ELEVEN: Does the Caterer offer Buffet or Plated Options.

Most Caterers do, but remember the pricing will be different because plated options are more labor intensive at the location of your event.

TWELVE: What are the additional charges that will be added to the Catering contract?

The topic of “fees and charges” can be one of the most important questions to ask your caterer. There will always be additional charges, of course there is tax, Service Fees, Gratuities, and possibly transportation if the Caterer has to travel outside of their region. They may charge mileage depending on where the event is located so always ask.

Events can take a lot of planning and preparation. If you hire the right caterer, you could have a lot of that stress taken off of your plate due to their experience and preparation. Your fifth tip, to ask if the catered food comes full service would be a great find. Leaving things like tablecloths and cutlery for the caterer to worry about could be a huge relief.
